Hidden from sight, mother of pearl is slowly made and composed of a delicately layered crystalized calcium. The microscopic layers create structural color, a luminous iridescent effect. Designed to protect, self-soothe, mother of pearl is one of the strongest natural materials on earth.
On the outside, shells are rugged, fierce and sharp. Yet on the inside there is a delicate and mystical essence: shielding, healing, and woven into it’s being, nearly unbreakable.
Moon-like and from the sea, shells hold an archetypal meaning in various cultures. A mystical mother; luminous from within, smooth and comforting, a shelter, a haven, a home.
